Three Charged as Alleged Fake TSC Recruitment Racket Lands in Court.

Three individuals have been charged before the Sotik Law Courts in Bomet County over allegations of orchestrating a fraudulent recruitment scheme in which job seekers were allegedly promised employment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the National Police Service (NPS) in exchange for money.

The accused appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Kimutai Matata and were charged with conspiracy to defraud. The prosecution alleged that the suspects conspired to obtain money from members of the public by falsely claiming they had the ability to secure government employment for their relatives.

According to court documents, the alleged offences were committed between October 2025 and April 2026 in Bomet County. Prosecutors stated that the accused obtained money from several residents after promising to facilitate recruitment into the Teachers Service Commission and the National Police Service and provide genuine appointment letters.

The charge sheet indicates that five complainants allegedly paid Ksh500,000 each after being assured that their relatives would be recruited into the two government institutions. The prosecution further alleged that the suspects obtained the funds by false pretences, despite lacking the authority or capacity to secure the promised employment.

The matter is being heard at the Sotik Law Courts as investigations and prosecution of recruitment-related fraud continue.

Growing Concern Over Recruitment Fraud

The case adds to a series of reported recruitment scams targeting Kenyans seeking employment in government institutions, particularly the Teachers Service Commission, the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Security agencies have repeatedly cautioned members of the public against making payments to individuals claiming they can influence recruitment into the National Police Service, Kenya Defence Forces or other disciplined services.

The National Police Service has consistently maintained that police recruitment is conducted free of charge, is merit-based and does not require any payment at any stage of the recruitment process.

Authorities have issued similar warnings during Kenya Defence Forces recruitment exercises following multiple reports of fraudsters demanding money while falsely promising successful recruitment.

In a separate recent incident, detectives arrested a police constable accused of obtaining Ksh687,000 from a member of the public after allegedly promising to secure recruitment into the Kenya Defence Forces.

The Teachers Service Commission has also been affected by recruitment fraud, with reports indicating that unemployed teachers have collectively lost more than Ksh40 million to individuals claiming they could secure teaching appointments.

In another ongoing case, detectives arrested four suspects in Bomet County, including a Teachers Service Commission director, a former Bomet Woman Representative aspirant and two teachers, over an alleged Ksh40 million recruitment scam targeting unemployed teachers.

Investigations into recruitment-related fraud continue as law enforcement agencies maintain that recruitment into the Teachers Service Commission, the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces is conducted through official procedures and authorised recruitment processes.
