Early Wednesday morning, a fire broke out at Oma John Mbadi Mixed Secondary School in Suba, Homa Bay County, disrupting students’ studies.

During the incident, a dormitory was entirely burned, and millions of shillings in property were destroyed. School administration confirmed that approximately 65 students spent the night in the dormitory.

Suba Deputy County Commissioner Sebastian Okiring told journalists that the flame broke out at 7 a.m. as students were in their classrooms going about their normal academic routines. As of Wednesday noon, the cause of the fire remained unknown.

Sebastian reported the destruction of at least 60 boxes containing student belongings. He further revealed that law enforcement authorities would conduct thorough investigations, including exploring the possibility that the latest incident might be a case of arson.

Images from the early morning event obtained by Mwalimunews.com showed a dormitory engulfed in flames and smoke billowing from the building.

The video showed a group of students at a school staring helplessly as the situation unfolded. Police officials have confirmed their arrival at the facility to investigate the cause of the fire.

The latest incident adds to the growing list of fires reported at schools around the country last week.
The fire at John Mbadi Secondary School occurred following a fire report at Isiolo Boys High School on Tuesday evening.

The property of unknown worth went up in smoke, leaving passersby staring in surprise.
Three days after a blazing inferno destroyed a dormitory at Isiolo Girls, there was a fire at Isiolo Boys.

A fire had been reported at Yemit Boys High School the previous day. Father Makewa School in Machakos County reported another fire a few hours later.

President William Ruto has already directed security forces to expedite investigations into the causes of recurrent fire accidents in schools.
