17 pupils Dead, 14 Hospitalized as Fire Engulfs Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri.
At least 17 pupils have been confirmed dead after a fire broke out in one of the dormitories at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni West, Nyeri County.
The National Police Service’s Dr. Resilia Onyango confirmed the incident and announced the hospitalization of 14 more pupils with severe burns.
The Thursday night fire burned the deceased students beyond recognition.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Deputy Director of CID John Onyango and Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto have dispatched a team of police officers to the school to begin the investigation.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen expressed profound grief over the incident, describing it as a heartbreaking tragedy. He conveyed his condolences to the families, friends, and the school community affected by the fire.
Murkomen extended prayers for those impacted and expressed his support for the survivors, wishing them a swift recovery. He also shared a hope that the souls of the departed may rest in peace.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula echoed similar sentiments, stating that he mourned the unfortunate deaths of the pupils and shared his sympathies with the bereaved families and the entire institution.
He urged for divine guidance to help navigate the loss and called on the authorities to investigate the incident. Wetang’ula also hoped that the young souls would rest in peace.

President William Ruto expressed his sorrow and extended his sympathies to the school community and the affected families. In a phone call to the school’s head, the president described the event as heartbreaking and devastating.
He offered prayers for the survivors’ recovery and committed to supporting the affected families. From Beijing, where he is attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, Ruto instructed the Ministry of Interior to mobilize resources for the victims and demanded a thorough investigation, vowing that those responsible would be held accountable.
