Hillside Endarasha Fire: Govt to Cover Medical Expenses as Body Identification process Begins on Monday.

On Monday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will begin identifying the bodies of students killed in the Hillside Endarasha Academy dormitory fire.

According to Nyeri County Commissioner Pius Murugu, the bodies are at Naromoru Level 4 Hospital, and the process of identifying them will begin on Monday.

Murugu stated that the DCI would lead the process, which he described as arduous and lengthy because the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

“Many more students are missing, but that process will start tomorrow at Naromoru. It’s going to be a long process, and we hope to have it concluded soon,” Murugu said.

He also stated that the government will cover any medical expenses incurred by students admitted to various hospitals, as well as the funeral arrangements for the deceased.

Murugu went on to say that he and the Ministry of Education will hold a meeting to get the school reopened as soon as possible, as there are national exams this term.

“Even though boarding will be delayed, day school will continue as we make plans for the boarding part,” according to him.

As concerns remain over the cause of the fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, Citizen TV has learned that the fatal fire, which killed 21 students, could have been caused by an electrical issue.

According to an interview with a parent whose child survived the catastrophe and who wished to remain anonymous, it all started near the main entrance, which houses students from Grades 5 to 8.

The parent discussed how sparks from a bulb near the dormitory’s main door may have started the fire.

Prosecutors said they had instructed police to look into whether negligence or recklessness caused the tragedy, and they pledged that those found guilty would face justice.

Around midnight on Thursday, fires consumed a dormitory at a primary school in Nyeri County, where over 150 boys aged 9 to 13 were sleeping.
