Term 3 School Academic Calendar: 2024 Key Dates (Kenya).

Three terms make up the Kenyan school calendar: term one, term two, and term three. Every term has an opening and closing date, as well as a midterm break. The goal is to distribute learning sessions evenly throughout the year, including holidays.

Key dates for Term 3 in 2024.

In terms of learning levels and curriculum, Term 3 is extremely important for students in their final classes/grades/forms. The Kenyan Ministry of Education publishes these dates to guide students, parents, and instructors as they embark on the final term of the academic year.

    Event Date

Term 3 began on Monday, August 26, 2024.

For this term, there is no midterm break.

Term 3 ends on Friday, October 25, 2024.

    Importance of Term 3.

Term 3 holds particular significance for several reasons:

National Examinations: Students in Standard 8 and Form 4 take their final KCPE and KCSE exams, respectively.

Final Assessments: This phrase refers to final assessments and evaluations used to measure a student’s overall academic success.

Transition Preparation: This refers to the time spent preparing students for the next level of education. For students who are transitioning from one level of education to another, such as from primary to secondary school or from secondary to post-secondary education, the third term is a critical period of preparation.

    Planning for Term 3

KPSEA and KILEA exams: Monday, October 28th to Thursday, October 31st (4 days).

KCSE Exams: Monday, November 4th through Friday, November 22nd (3 weeks)

December Holiday: Monday, October 28th to Friday, January 3rd, 2025 (extended break after exams)

The Ministry of Education has urged strict compliance with the ban on certain activities in schools during the third term.

    Ban on school activities

Education PS Belio Kipsang reiterated that the directive issued via circular on January 21, 2021, remains in effect.

“Please be reminded of the directive issued on January 21, 2021, which prohibits certain activities and visits to schools during the third term,” Kipsang stated.

All relevant individuals and organizations must strictly observe the ban on these activities, he added.

The directive specifically prohibits external visits and co-curricular events that might interfere with learning in preparation for the national exams.

The Ministry of Education has encouraged strict adherence to the restriction on specific activities in schools during the third term.

According to Education Secretary Belio Kipsang, the decision made via circular on January 21, 2021, is still in effect.

“The ban on these activities is still in effect and must be strictly observed by all relevant individuals and organizations,” a spokesperson said.

The guideline clearly prohibits external trips and extracurricular activities that may interfere with learning in preparation for national exams.
