Ministry of Education Bans Third-Term School Activities: Reasons.
The Education Ministry is reimposing its ban on some school activities for the third term.
On Tuesday, September 3, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang issued a circular instructing all regional, county, and sub-county education directors to execute the January 2021 prohibition.
The regulation forbids activities such as prayer days, visits, half-term breaks, sports, award ceremonies, and annual general meetings.
The purpose of this approach is to limit interactions between students and outsiders in order to avoid cheating during the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

“The ban on the indicated activities remains in force. It is crucial that all relevant individuals and organizations adhere to this directive,” said Kipsang.
Former Education Secretary Fred Matiang’i first implemented the restriction in May 2016 with the intention of reducing cheating by limiting candidates’ ability to share documents during prayer days and other activities.
“Head teachers should immediately call the police in case anybody visits their schools with letters of permission purported to be from the ministry.” The order stated.
