TSC Denies Plans to Deploy High School Teachers to JSS.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday refuted circulating reports suggesting that high school teachers were set to be transferred to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

The Commission described these claims, which were spreading across social media and other platforms, as misleading, urging its members to disregard such information.

The TSC was compelled to address the issue after a letter making these false claims gained widespread attention, causing concern among Kenyans.

The letter, which has since been flagged as fraudulent, falsely attributed statements to TSC boss Nancy Macharia, who was claimed to have directed high school principals to submit the names of teachers eligible for transfer to JSS.

In the letter, it was alleged that TSC was undertaking efforts to enhance the quality of education in JSS by identifying teachers for redeployment from senior secondary schools starting in 2025.

The purported notice asked school principals to submit names of suitable teachers for transfer to junior schools.

Fake Notice’s Alleged Criteria for Teacher Selection

The fraudulent notice outlined specific criteria for selecting teachers for the supposed redeployment to JSS.

According to the fake document, teachers who were new to the profession and had been registered under the Commission for less than four years were to be prioritized.

It also claimed that excess teachers under certain subject combinations would be redeployed to ensure optimal staffing in JSS based on school needs.

TSC’s response came amid rising concerns about the shortage of teachers in JSS across the country. To address these concerns, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced the government’s commitment to confirm approximately 46,000 JSS teachers by January 2025.

He assured that sufficient funds would be allocated to support the confirmation of these teachers, helping to alleviate the staffing shortages in junior schools.
