School Audit: Ministry of Education to Close Non-Compliant Schools by January.

The Ministry of Education has emphasized that schools failing to meet safety standards by January next year will be shut down.

This decision is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that learning institutions provide safe environments for students.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang revealed that a multi-agency team has been established to audit schools’ adherence to safety regulations outlined in the school safety and standards manual.

He expressed concern over the condition of key school facilities such as dormitories and laboratories, stressing the importance of maintaining them to safeguard learners.

“We are very concerned about some facilities in our institutions like dormitories, laboratories and other facilities which must be in good condition to safe guard our learners in schools”, said Dr. Kipsang.

Dr. Kipsang made these remarks during a visit to Olkalou Comprehensive School in Nyandarua.

    Multi-Agency Team and Stakeholder Involvement

The audit team comprises officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE), Public Health, and the Ministry of Interior, among other government bodies.

Dr. Kipsang urged parents and stakeholders to regularly visit schools to monitor the facilities their children are using.

He noted that many parents, after paying school fees, often leave the responsibility to school heads without realizing they have the right to assess the school’s environment.
