KUCCPS Launches Instant University Placement Letter System.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched a new placement portal that will allow students who qualified for university admission in previous years but did not apply for any academic programme to secure placement and immediately obtain university admission letters.
The announcement was made by KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome during the University Funding Model Sensitisation Forum held at Uriri Senior School in Migori County. The forum was organized by Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita and brought together thousands of secondary school graduates, parents, guardians, and higher education stakeholders.
KUCCPS Introduces New Placement Product
Dr. Wahome revealed that KUCCPS has integrated a new product into its placement system to provide another opportunity for students who did not submit university applications during previous placement cycles.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, the system enables eligible students who previously failed to apply for university programmes to submit applications through the KUCCPS portal and instantly receive university placement letters once successfully placed.
She disclosed that the new service recorded significant uptake immediately after its launch.
“Within 24 hours after the launch of the new product on the KUCCPS platform, already 1,000 students had applied and downloaded their university placement letters,” Wahome said.
The admission letters generated through the system will enable successful applicants to proceed with applications for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans and government scholarship funding.
KUCCPS Mapping Exercise Led to the New Initiative
Dr. Wahome stated that, on average, approximately 85 percent of students who attain the minimum university entry grade apply for degree programmes through KUCCPS each year, while approximately 15 percent do not submit applications.
She explained that the placement agency has been conducting a mapping exercise since 2022 to establish the status of students who qualified for university admission but failed to apply for placement.
According to Wahome, the findings informed the development of the new placement product, which is intended to provide another opportunity for students who previously did not join university for various reasons.
University Funding Model Sensitisation Forum
The University Funding Model Sensitisation Forum held at Uriri Senior School attracted approximately 2,200 Form Four leavers from the Class of 2025 and previous cohorts drawn from Uriri Sub-County.
Participants received information on university placement procedures, admission requirements, the University Funding Model, government scholarships, and Higher Education Loans Board financing.
Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita said the initiative was targeting at least 3,000 students.
“We are targeting at least 3,000 students to register for the University Funding Model Sensitisation Forum in Uriri to help them get a good insight into what is required from the university funding system as well as offer guidance on university placement,” Nyamita said.
He stated that the forum was designed to provide parents and guardians with accurate information on university admission procedures and government funding opportunities available to students.
Nyamita added that the programme also seeks to address misconceptions surrounding the new university funding model while providing accurate guidance on programme selection and funding applications to minimize errors that could result in underfunding of financially needy students.
Expanded Programme Across Migori County
The Uriri legislator stated that unlike previous years when the sensitisation programme primarily served students from Uriri Sub-County, this year’s initiative will be expanded to ensure equitable distribution of beneficiaries across all sub-counties in Migori County.
According to Nyamita, the expanded approach is intended to increase access to university placement information and higher education funding opportunities for students across the county.
Approximately 800 applicants from Uriri Sub-County benefited from the programme during the previous year.
The increased participation recorded during this year’s forum reflected growing demand for information relating to university placement, government scholarships, and student financing as candidates prepare to join institutions of higher learning.
HELB Urges Students to Apply for Funding
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Monari encouraged eligible students, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, to apply for HELB loans and government scholarship funding.
Monari urged applicants to ensure they submit all the required supporting documentation to facilitate appropriate assessment for scholarship allocation.
He also advised first-year university students expected to report for admission during the August and September intake to utilize the funds responsibly throughout their studies.
“The funds that you will get are not meant for betting and other negative vices, but rather for a comfortable stay as you pursue your education dreams and careers,” Monari said.

KUCCPS Initiative Expands Access to University Placement
The newly launched KUCCPS placement product provides an additional pathway for students who qualified for university admission in previous years but did not participate in earlier placement exercises.
Successful applicants will be able to obtain university placement letters immediately after placement, enabling them to proceed with applications for Higher Education Loans Board financing and government scholarship support before joining their respective institutions.
