KNEC Introduces New Answer Format for 2025 KPSEA and KJSEA Exams.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has changed the answer format for the 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, candidates sitting the two exams will now shade their answers in circles on Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets instead of drawing lines.

“For 2025 KPSEA and KJSEA, candidates will shade their answers in circles not lines,” KNEC said.

The Council has uploaded sample OMR sheets and rubrics on the official KNEC website to help learners and institutions to get used to the new format before the exams in October 2025.

Sample question papers for KJSEA have also been uploaded on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal to aid early preparation.

“The sample papers which are developed and disseminated by KNEC for free through the KNEC website are in the format to be used for KJSEA to be administered in October 2025,” the Council said.

KNEC also announced that the KJSEA sample papers were uploaded in January 2025 to give schools enough time to familiarise learners with the new structure. The Council said these resources are free and meant for use in registered assessment centres only.

“All schools can now access the KJSEA sample papers, sample OMR sheets and instructions for both KJSEA and KPSEA from the CBA portal,” KNEC added.
