KNEC Website Malfunctions as KCSE Results Are Released.

Candidates for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam encountered difficulties in accessing their results after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released them on Thursday afternoon.

The KNEC website experienced a technical failure, preventing users from obtaining their results.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, officially announced the KCSE results shortly after noon. He mentioned that the results would be made publicly available thereafter.

For individual candidates, the results were to be accessed through the website: https://results.knec.ac.ke.

Ogamba recommended that candidates facing difficulties on the website use the toll-free helplines 0800724900 or 0800721410 for assistance.

However, almost immediately following the release, Citizen Digital reported that the KNEC website was unresponsive. Error messages such as “This page isn’t working” and “This site can’t be reached” appeared for users attempting to access the link.

    Helpline and Service Challenges

Moreover, the helpline numbers provided by Ogamba were also experiencing issues. Citizen Digital’s attempts to connect to the provided helplines were unsuccessful, as the lines remained busy throughout.

At the time of the report, the national examination body had not yet responded to inquiries regarding the website malfunction.

This year’s results release marked a shift from the previous years, where candidates accessed their results via SMS by sending their index numbers to a short code given by KNEC. In contrast, the new system was marred by technical difficulties.

This incident echoed a similar issue from 2023, when Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates struggled to access their results due to a collapsed SMS service.

Despite Education CS Ezekiel Machogu’s announcement of the results, those attempting to check results received an SMS stating that they were “not available” and were advised to try again later, even though hours had passed since the official release.

KNEC later issued a public apology, attributing the problem to technical issues within their system.
