KCSE Results: 2,829 Candidates Results Withheld as 91 Teachers Face Disciplinary Actions Over Exam Malpractice.
A total of 840 candidates who sat for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will not receive their results after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) cancelled them due to involvement in exam irregularities.
During the announcement of the 2024 KCSE results on Thursday, Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba explained that 2,829 candidates had their results withheld as they were under suspicion of exam malpractice. These candidates will remain in limbo as investigations are set to conclude within 30 days.
Ogamba defended the decision, pointing to the KNEC (Handling of Examination Irregularities) Rules of 2015, specifically Legal Notice No. 132 of 2015. This legal framework gives the Council the authority to withhold or suspend results of candidates found guilty of exam malpractices.
Disciplinary Actions Against Teachers
The Education Cabinet Secretary also confirmed that disciplinary measures would be taken against 91 teachers who were implicated in aiding the irregularities.
He expressed regret that despite efforts to curb these issues, a small group of teachers and contracted professionals continued to compromise the future of students by engaging in examination malpractices.
Ogamba commended KNEC for its use of anonymity during the marking of papers, a step he believed helped enhance credibility and transparency in the exam process.

He emphasized that this approach contributed to a fairer assessment, holding candidates personally accountable for any irregularities.
Lastly, Ogamba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all 962,512 candidates who participated in the exam would move on to tertiary institutions. This is in line with the government’s policy of achieving 100 percent transition from secondary school to higher education.
