TSC to Promote Over 28,000 Teachers Across Various Grades.

The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has revealed plans to promote 28,288 teachers in various grades this year, aiming to support their professional development.

During the release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results in Nairobi, TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi shared that in the past two years, the commission had promoted 59,792 teachers.

He emphasized the importance of taking advantage of these opportunities, encouraging all eligible teachers to seize the chance for career progression. Muturi also expressed gratitude to the government for its increased funding to the education sector, which has contributed to such efforts.

The State of the Teaching Profession in Kenya

Currently, Kenya is home to 229,292 primary school teachers, with an additional 60,000 teachers in training to transition into secondary school roles.

Muturi highlighted that ongoing programs are designed to equip teachers with the necessary skills to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and address the diverse needs of students.

In a related development, David Njegere, the CEO of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), announced that sample examination papers for the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) are available for free on the council’s portal.

He cautioned, however, that there are individuals who might attempt to exploit these materials by downloading them and selling them to schools, urging people to avoid such actions.
