KNEC Cancels 840 Candidates’ Results Due to Malpractices in 2024 KCSE Exams.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has taken action by canceling the results of 840 candidates following confirmed cases of examination malpractices in the 2024 national exams.
This step was taken to uphold the integrity of the examination process.
In addition, the council has withheld the results of 2,899 candidates suspected of being involved in irregularities, awaiting further investigation. Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, revealed this information during the release of the results at Mitihani House on Thursday.
He confirmed that the withheld results will be made available on February 9, after the 30-day investigative period concludes.
Ogamba also addressed the issue of contracted professionals and teachers who have been implicated in facilitating these malpractices.

He mentioned that a total of 91 contracted professionals were involved in the irregularities, and he assured that strict disciplinary measures would be enforced against those found guilty.
Decline in Exam Malpractices Compared to 2023
Notably, the number of exam malpractice cases reported this year has decreased significantly from 2023, when 4,113 candidates were found to have engaged in irregularities.
In that year, KNEC canceled four candidates’ results over suspected impersonation, and 120 contracted professionals were implicated for aiding in malpractice. This year’s decline in reported cases is seen as a positive step in improving the examination process.
