KICD Gives All Principals 7 Days to Submit Grade 10 Enrollment Data or Risk Missing Textbooks.
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has directed all public senior school principals to submit updated Grade 10 enrollment and textbook distribution data within seven days to support the next phase of textbook allocation across the country.
In a notice dated June 12, 2026, KICD Chief Executive Officer Charles Ong’ondo announced that the first phase of Grade 10 textbook distribution had been completed using enrollment data initially provided by the Ministry of Education.
According to KICD, the exercise is intended to verify actual Grade 10 enrollment figures in public senior schools as at the end of the First Term of 2026 and facilitate the second phase of textbook distribution.
“KICD informs all senior school principals that the first phase of the distribution of Grade 10 textbooks has been completed, guided by the data initially provided by the Ministry of Education,” the institute stated.
The agency further noted that it is seeking to confirm Grade 10 student enrollment data in every public senior school, including the number of learners enrolled in individual subjects.
“The Institute is seeking to confirm the Grade 10 student enrolment data in every public senior school by the end of First Term 2026 in terms of numbers of learners taking various subjects,” KICD stated.
Under the directive, principals are required to submit:
- The current number of Grade 10 learners enrolled in each subject.
- The number of textbooks received for each subject.
KICD indicated that the information will be used to identify schools experiencing textbook shortages as well as institutions that may have received excess copies. The data will also support implementation of the government’s One-to-One Textbook Policy by ensuring that textbook allocation corresponds to actual student enrollment.
The institute directed schools to submit the required information through its designated online data collection platform. The submission deadline has been set for June 19, 2026.
“Therefore, all Principals of Public Senior Schools are requested to submit the current number of Grade 10 learners by subject and textbooks received per subject,” KICD stated.
KICD clarified that principals who have already submitted the required information are not required to submit the data again.

The institute also requested schools that have not received Grade 10 textbooks, as well as those that received quantities exceeding their requirements, to report the matter through the designated support channels. Such cases should be communicated through the official email address provided by the institute for textbook distribution matters.
The verification exercise forms part of ongoing preparations by the Ministry of Education and KICD for the second phase of Grade 10 textbook distribution in public senior schools nationwide.
