Gov’t Increases Salaries for civil servants to Avert Strike: New Earnings.

Civil servants are due to receive a wage increase of between Ksh. 1,000 and Ksh. 3,000, retroactive to July 1.

Public Service Principal Secretary Amos Gathecha signed a circular stating that civil officials would also receive a higher housing allowance.

According to the new structure, which covers the second phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the lowest cadre within the civil service, currently paid Ksh. 16,910, will now receive Ksh. 18,250.

Similarly, people earning Ksh. 19,220 per month will now receive Ksh. 20,560, beginning July 1, 2024.

Government employees who have been earning Ksh. 23,700 per month will see modifications to their pay stubs as a result of a compromise reached between Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and union officials.

Higher-level job categories have also received the increment. Civil servants earning Ksh.102,860 per month will now receive Ksh.105,570 per month. Those earning Ksh. 125,630 will now receive Ksh. 127,340 in their bank accounts.

The agreement also includes a review of house allowances, with higher-level civil personnel scheduled to receive considerable amounts, such as KSh 80,000, KSh 60,000, and KSh 50,000 per month for individuals living in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, individuals in lower-level jobs would receive monthly allowances ranging from KSh 3,750 to KSh 4,500.

The Union of Kenya Civil Servants called off the planned strike after this development, reporting that all of their requests had been satisfied. Civil servants have been encouraged to consider the CBA fully implemented and to resume their regular work.
