    Classrooms Damaged, Students Hospitalized After Storm Hits Kisumu School

    On Wednesday evening, a storm caused by heavy rains hit Kisumu County, leading to significant destruction at a local learning institution. Nine students were rushed to the hospital after the storm caused severe damage to their school.

    The storm struck St. Aloys Mayenya in Kisumu East Sub-county after heavy rains that occurred the previous day.

    The students, who were going about their daily routines, sustained injuries when the storm tore off the roofs of their classrooms.

    In addition to the damaged classrooms, the teachers’ offices and staffroom were also severely affected by the storm.

    Medical Response and Injuries

    School principal Judith Atieno confirmed that the injured students, who had sustained minor injuries, were treated at a hospital and have since been discharged.

    Atieno expressed concerns about the school’s ability to resume learning promptly due to the extensive damage.

    She urged the local community and government to assist in rebuilding the school infrastructure, which is crucial for the quick resumption of classes.
