KNEC Develops Online Training Platform for Teachers and Educators on Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the development of a new online training platform aimed at empowering teachers and educators on Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).

The platform, created by the KNEC Resource Centre, offers a self-paced learning experience designed to help educators gain a deeper understanding of CBA practices.

The platform is equipped with interactive tools, such as instructional videos, live chats, discussion blogs, podcasts, and video conferencing sessions. It also includes collaborative features like forums, wikis, and shared documents that allow peer-to-peer interaction.

To ensure personalized learning, trainees will receive individualized feedback on all reflection sessions, fostering personal growth. Additionally, the platform tracks learner progress, the time spent on activities, and performance, enabling educators to monitor their development and that of their peers.

Focus on Test Development and Formative Assessment

In a related workshop held recently, KNEC officers, under the leadership of CEO Dr. David Njengere, developed a new training module designed to equip teachers, educators, and assessors with skills in test development.

Dr. Njengere underscored the significance of understanding the relationship between curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

He stressed that formative assessment plays a pivotal role in identifying learning gaps and informing strategies to address them.

By diagnosing these gaps early, educators can help learners acquire the competencies necessary for their academic growth.

This approach aligns with the overall goal of ensuring that students meet the required standards under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

KNEC’s initiatives aim to enhance the quality of education by supporting teachers and assessors with the tools they need to implement effective assessments, thus ensuring learners can thrive in the new CBC system.
