According to Article 237 of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Act 2012, the commission is mandated to register all qualified teachers before they can work in public or private institutions.
Once a teacher meets the necessary requirements, they will be issued a Certificate of Registration, which includes a TSC number, within 30 days. The TSC also publishes the names of all registered teachers annually.
The process of applying for a Teacher Service Commission (TSC) number follows the guidelines set forth in the Teacher Service Commission Act and is designed to be both simple and efficient.

Issuance of Certificate and TSC Number Certificate Download
Once the application is submitted and all documents are verified, qualified applicants will receive their registration certificate within 30 days. This certificate contains a unique TSC number, which is mandatory for teaching in Kenyan schools.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) says that individuals applying for teacher registration will receive their Certificates of Registration in digital format. Applicants will be required to print the digital certificates as proof of registration.
In line with its effort to digitize services, TSC introduced the digital registration certificates on 1st November 2023. Applicants must provide a valid email address during the registration process, as this is where the certificate will be sent.
The certificate will be emailed from the TSC’s official address (teacherregistrationcertificate2@tsc.go.ke) directly to the inbox of the applicant. To ensure security, a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent both to the applicant’s phone and email for verification. The applicant must enter both OTPs to verify their identity and complete the process.
Once the verification is successful, the applicant will receive a link to download the certificate. TSC emphasized the importance of providing a valid email address that the applicant can access easily, as issues may arise if the email is inaccessible.
The teacher can then download and print the certificate to have a hard copy as evidence of registration by TSC.
Annual Publication of Registered Teachers
Each year, the Teacher Service Commission publishes the names of all registered teachers.
It is important to highlight that TSC strictly enforces online applications, and no paper submissions are accepted.
