Head of Public Service Orders Nationwide School Inspections After Hillside Endarasha Academy Tragedy.
Following a recent fire incident that claimed the lives of 21 students at Hillside Endarasha School in Nyeri County, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei ordered the Ministry of Education to begin the immediate inspection of all school infrastructure to ensure compliance with safety regulations on Saturday.
The Head of Public Service instructed the Ministry’s quality assurance staff to ensure student safety in both classrooms and dorms to prevent tragedies caused by the hazards.
‘’I am asking the Department of Quality Assurance officers and every government officer whether they are in teaching profession or at the management levels to ensure that the safety of our children whether they are in classes or dormitories is assured,’’ Koskei directed.
He stated that the nation had reached a point where it could no longer bear the annual deaths of children due to non-compliance with safety regulations.
The Head of Public Service emphasized that the country cannot afford to lose lives each year due to non-compliance with safety regulations. He further stressed the importance of ensuring that parents feel confident and secure when sending their children to school.
He added that parents should trust their children are safe under the care of school management and teachers, and it is the responsibility of the management to guarantee that school facilities meet required standards.
To ensure students’ safety in classrooms, Koskei also instructed school management to follow the guidelines established by the Ministry of Education.
Koskei further mandated that the inspection only approve buildings that comply with the directives issued by the Ministry of Education and other pertinent agencies.
He directed that the Ministry’s inspectorate, in collaboration with the Minister of Education, conduct thorough inspections and ensure that school constructions adhere to the established guidelines.

‘’The inspectorate of the Ministry working closely with the Minister of Education in the locations have to do proper inspection and guidelines, and they need to approve the construction of schools in line with the guidelines given,’’ he ordered.
Additionally, he disclosed that the government was counting on a strategy to ensure stringent adherence to the nation’s school management levels in order to advance academic standards.
The country’s Head of Public Service further stated that the government was totally dedicated to maintaining security in both public and private educational institutions. He was responding to the recent Endarasha Hillside Academy fire disaster in Nyeri County, which resulted in the deaths of over seventeen students.
