Hillside Endarasha Academy Pupil Reveals How Tragic Fire That Took 21 Lives Started.

A young survivor of the Hillside Endarasha Academy has given a terrifying story of what happened before the fire that killed 21 students.

Before it became a fatal inferno, the dormitory, which housed pupils in Grades 5 through 8, was a haven and a place to rest.

One survivor’s mother told Citizen TV that while her son was lying on the top bunk of a double-decker bed near the entryway, he saw sparks shoot from the lightbulb above him, startling him out of sleep.

He recounted how the bulb exploded, startling one of the children awake and sending sparks onto his mattress, which then caught fire.

In a panic, the student dove down right away in an attempt to get water to put out the flames, but none was in reach.

As valuable seconds passed, the fire quickly spread around the bed.

The student ran back to the dorm to warn his fellow pupils of the seriousness of the situation.

The fire had spread too far by now, even with their best efforts to alert everyone and put out the flames.

He claimed that despite their best efforts, they were unable to contain the fire because it was spreading too quickly. The mother stated that the pupils had to awaken others and alert the matron. Fear set in as flames consumed more mattresses and smoke filled the room, despite the pupils’ ineffective attempts to extinguish the fire.

48 students had fallen asleep in 24 double-decker beds—12 on the right side and 12 on the left—near the dormitory’s main entrance when the fire broke out.

Every pupil had a sleeping space, but the close proximity of the cardboard dividers and wooden beds that divided the various spaces only helped the flames grow quickly.

When the fire spread, the dormitory’s structural components—wood and cardboard—proved disastrous, making it nearly impossible for anyone attempting to flee.

Reports suggest that the dorm lights left on all night may have contributed to the fire starting so quickly.

The architecture and state of the dorm probably increased the intensity of the fire, even though it’s still unknown if inadequate wiring or another electrical problem started the initial spark.

The fire quickly destroyed the flammable items due to their close proximity to each other.

After receiving notification that the fire had grown too large to extinguish, the matron arrived on the scene.

The students’ only option was to escape the dorm, but not all did in time as the fire grew.

The chances of survival were slim for those caught in the heavy smoke and swiftly spreading flames. The administration has attested to the fact that inquiries into the fire’s origin are still underway.

“While the cause of the fire has not yet been definitively identified, the government confirms that it has mobilized all relevant agencies and continues to work diligently to conduct these investigations,” Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura told the media. Those found guilty will face legal consequences. The government is dedicated to making every student accountable.”

While some parents continue to look for their missing children, others have urged the authorities to expedite investigations.
